Pay-to-Play

Post by NY Tomcat »

With the financial crisis and looming pay-to-play fees at Trimble on the horizon will it affect the future there? Will players opt out? Consolidation? The program was already slipping down hill. Will this exacerbate the problem? Thoughts?

Let's just see what plays out over the next few months.

I doubt any platers opt out. I don't think consolidation will happen neither but crazier things have happened.

I don't think the program is slipping down hill. Everyone has some lean years around here and we just happened to hit them. Can't do much about it except work with what you have.

Zane Trace has used pay to play for probably 20 years.

I don’t think consolidation is happening anytime soon as it will be a big hoopla about doing it. As it is over in WV with a few schools that probably should but won’t. But some Scioto and Lawrence Co schools definitely could

Play to participate kills sports at most schools.

With NY coming back loaded and Athens being resurrected I’m already hearing of players jumping off the down slide. You lost your best player last year to Eastern. The rest will stick closer to home is my prediction. Hate to see the demise of the program but it could help the two powerhouses in the area.

Not many programs have more community support or tradition than Trimble. It will take a lot to bring them down.

I for one hope Thimble doesn’t fold. It’s been too much fun beating the brakes off of them the past three years and I’m looking forward to doing it again next year. So please hang on and please keep the same coaches.

As someone naive to this talk, what is going on with Trimble? is anything substantiated? and who would they consolidate with?

I was thinking that many schools in our area currently use it or have in the past.

As long as the fees aren’t insane, then it likely won’t impact anything. If they are super high, then it will cause some issues though.

The problem with pay-to-play is in the name. Numbers slowly drop because parents attitude is “ I’m not going to pay x$ to have my child sit the bench.”

agree

That is like playground boys wanting to play another playground team, so they bring several other kids in to help pay for the gym then sit them. Wouldn't think the kids that sit would come back after that. Sounds like a good reason to reduces the depth of your team.

Trimble kids have never had to do "pay to play". A lot of this stuff is funded by the boosters, the only thing they pay for is walkthrough stuff and pre game shirts.

But, obviously things could change. Like I've said before I'd wait a few months to see what happens.

Been spending money like a drunken sailor for the past few years. It was obviously going to catch up to them at sometime. Now with the state having to step in they’ll most likely determine if having sports is affordable or not.

It is sad that schools have limited budgets and having to do cost saving measures that includes starting pay to play. How many other schools are starting this to keep extracurricular programs afloat??
